Living in Downtown Portland Oregon Has Some Nice Advantages
Living downtown may not be for everyone, but for those who are drawn to it, downtown Portland real estate in Oregon can offer some amazing perks.
It’s clear that one of the best advantages to living in the heart of downtown Portland is the ease of transportation to and from Portland’s downtown and within it. For most people living in town, walking, biking, and public transit are the preferred way of transportation. Of course, there is no requirement for an automobile or bikes if you use the city’s public transportation. But Portland’s definitely a flexible city and works great for all modes of transportation.
Walking to work is one way to stay healthy, and Portland is certainly a pedestrian’s paradise. In fact, Portland’s city blocks were designed quite a bit smaller than in some other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making for a closer stroll to Portland’s ubiquitous corner coffee shops. If your workplace is downtown, you may be able to do without a car entirely.
Downtown Portland has fantastic residential areas where you can purchase a Portland townhose and live in the city’s core in style. Depending of course upon where your job is located, you may actually end up living within walking distance from your job.
There are several good locations you should look into if you want to buy a loft or condo conversion in Portland, but for a lot of folks, the clear winner is The Pearl District. It’s popular due in part to the abundance of retail shops and easy transportation, The Pearl District also happens to be where many trendy art galleries and high-end businesses are located.
